Two-factor authentication(2FA) is coming to Pomegranate this fall. If your school requires 2FA, this article covers what to expect.
What is it
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an additional layer of security to your Pomegranate account. If your password is ever compromised, your account stays protected because a second verification method lives on a device only you have access to.
As data standards evolve, some schools and countries now require multi-factor authentication for the platforms and services they use. 2FA is one part of our broader, ongoing commitment to responsible data and security practice as the platform grows.
Please contact our team at contactus@pomegranate.so if you have any questions or concerns about this upcoming security update.
How it works
Once 2FA is turned on, you’ll be asked each time you sign in to Pomegranate to enter your password along with a short code. This code will come from an authenticator app on your phone. This app generates a new code every 30 seconds.
Download an authenticator app
A trusted, third party authenticator app generates one-time short codes that you can use alongside your password.
If you don’t have an authenticator app yet, we recommend Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator.

Setting up two-factor authentication
Have your phone with you before starting.
- You may be asked to re-enter your password before setting up 2FA. Enter your password to proceed.
- Next, you will be presented with a QR code and instructions on screen.
- On your phone, use your authenticator app to scan the QR code. Once the app has successfully scanned this code, the title “Pomegranate Teaching App” will appear in your list with a numeric code.
- Enter the code you received on screen, and click Continue.
- Lastly, you’ll see a small notification with a green checkmark, letting you know that 2FA is enabled on your Pomegranate account.
Signing in once two-factor authentication is on
From this point forward, every time you sign in to Pomegranate, we’ll ask for your password and a verification code from your authenticator app. Keep the app installed on the device you used during setup, and have the device with you when signing in since that's where your codes will come from going forward.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to enter a code every time I sign in?
Yes. Each code is generated and valid for 30 seconds at a time , so a code from an earlier sign-in won't work again.
Does a school administrator need to set up 2FA?
Yes, we recommend (and enforce in some cases) school administrators have 2FA enabled because administrators are able to view and manage the email addresses and information of other teachers.
Does a school administrator need to set up 2FA for every teacher?
Each person turns on 2FA individually, on their own account and their own device. An administrator may encourage or require it across a school, but the setup itself happens per account

Can I turn 2FA off later?
On personal accounts, you can choose to turn 2FA off at any time.
If you are part of a school, some schools may require 2FA to remain on for all staff accounts.
